Sheet metal: tolerances, sheet sizes and lead times

What we hold as standard on laser cutting, bending and tapping — and where engineering review begins.

  • Sheet metal at FormHub holds ±0.1 mm on cut contours and ±0.2 mm on bend dimensions, with ±0.05 mm on specific features. We process sheet up to 3,000 × 1,500 mm and thicknesses from 0.5 to 25 mm; larger formats are quoted via engineering review.

Frequently asked questions

How do tolerances stack across multiple bends?
Each bend adds roughly ±0.2 mm. Across four consecutive bends the deviation on the final dimension can approach a millimetre. Always dimension from a single datum face rather than chain-dimensioning.
What is the minimum distance from a hole to a bend line?
Keep at least two material thicknesses plus the bend radius. Closer than that and the hole deforms into an oval during bending. Our DFM check flags this automatically.
Which secondary operations run in the same order?
Deburring, clinch nuts (PEM), tapping up to M12, TIG and MIG welding, powder coating in RAL colours and galvanising. One quote, one delivery, one point of contact for the finished part.
